Grapefruits are great for breakfast or really any time of day! A half of a grapefruit contains half of the daily-recommended intake of vitamin C. Have the whole grapefruit and you will practically have all the vitamin C that you need for the entire day!
Grapefruit can protect against high cholesterol, assist with weight loss, and even ease pain associated with inflammation. This sweetly sour fruit also comes packed with antioxidants that reduce the risk of cancer. Pink grapefruits are high in lycopene, a specific antioxidant that has been particularly associated with cancer prevention. Other protective plant chemicals found in grapefruit include phenolic acid, limonoids, terpenes, and monoterpenes, all of which play a role in the prevention of cancer formation.
You can store a whole grapefruit at room temperature for about a week, but if you put it in the refrigerator it will last 2-3 weeks! Once the grapefruit is cut and peeled you will want to keep it refrigerated in an airtight container and eat it within the next couple days!
